Making a Green Veggie Shake

The healthiest food we can eat are greens: arugula, collard greens, mustard greens, beets greens, spinach, chard, dandelion greens, kale, sorrel, turnip greens, mizuna, etc. You may have never heard of some of these green gems, but they are a powerhouse of nutrients. They are rich in vitamins (including K, C, E and many of the B vitamins), minerals (including iron, calcium, magnesium and potassium) and phytonutrients (including lutein, beta-carotene and zeaxanthin). Oh and lets not forget fiber—lots of it. Eating greens can be part of an arsenal to combat cancer, diabetes, inflammation and heart disease.

"Okay," you say. How do I eat these green gems. Sitting down to a plate of greens is daunting to say the least. Not to mention a time consuming chewing effort and a bit of a challenge in the taste area.

Veggie shake to the rescue!

Green Veggie Shake Recipe
1/2 C water in blender
sweet apple (cut up) or ripe banana
several cut up bunches of assorted greens
Blend until smooth
Add 1C of frozen berry mixture
Blend until smooth
Pour and Enjoy!

  1. Thank you, Chris. I love greens, but I have to admit, I haven't tasted all the ones you mentioned today. You made the shake seem irresistable.

  3. So, do I need a fancy blender like yours? Or will my Cuisinart blender get the job done? Yours looks pretty impressive.

  4. Mine is a Vita-Mix, the same make as those used at Jamba Juice and other juice places. They have specials on QVC for a really good price. I've had mine forever. But your Cuisinart should do the job. Give it a whirl!
